Using explosions geometric planes and volumes I am trying to convey in an abstract manner how limited each of our own point of view or reality can be. We are constantly told that we are in a state of war with each other, be it physical, political or social all the while our own understanding of the "other sides" point of view or their reality is often so limited and shallow. I am really enjoying this series and hope to expand the series out to a whole collection.

A selection of recent abstract works inspired by the Russia Suprematist painters that were displayed in the Making Waves exhibition curated by William Daek and held at Studio 281. Using explosions geometric shapes and implied line to represent economic and social ideas.
Suburban Kookaburras

My Nan was an amateur watercolour painter, she mainly painted native wildflowers and as a kid i distinctly remember getting dragged to lots of naff museum's and galleries to look at Australiana arts and crafts. I wanted to do a contemporary version of the naff Australiana my Nan loved so much.
Being a kid from the working class northern suburbs of Perth i wasnt exposed to rare native wildflowers or the scenes of rural life that are so common in Australiana artwork. Native Australian birdlife however is probably the last form of native fauna people in the suburbs or city's of Australia are exposed to on a regular basis and to me are really emblematic of growing up in the suburbs of Perth. Yes i am aware the Kookaburra isn't native to Western Australia but it has become so synonymous with life in the suburbs, so i decided to make an exception.
As Australiana based artwork seems to be the recent flavour of the month, I think this may be my last bird print.

Being a kid from the working class northern suburbs of Perth i wasnt exposed to rare native wildflowers or the scenes of rural life that are so common in Australiana Artwork. Native Australian birdlife however is probably the last form of native fauna people in the suburbs or city's of Australia are exposed to on a regular basis and to me are really emblematic of growing up in the Suburbs of Perth. Getting swooped by Magpies in spring while walking to school is an essential part of the suburban Australian experience.

Pink and Greys have so much personality they are as cheeky as they are noisy.

While not often spotted in the suburbs Blue Wrens are so synonymous with childhood holidays in the South West of Western Australia that i had to include them.
